Norfolk Drone Training Academy has developed multiple tactical/contextualised modules for both civilian and emergency services usage. Each lasting varied amounts of time, these can be tailored to fit the desired number of days for the course delegates depending on their intended drone operations. This allows for flexibility in only choosing modules applicable to your organisation within your timescales. These modules can be used at the start of a new pilot’s training or as continued professional development for existing pilots.
Aims and Objectives
The fundamental aim of these modules is to enforce best practice, standardisation and safety within pilots as well as efficiency within your organisation’s context. Covering various topics, students will become more proficient in the theoretical, technical and practical applications of their drones within their organisation’s intended usage. It also allows NDTA to communicate any changes in legislation or necessary updates to pilots. Objectives will depend on the module selected by the delegate.
Below are some examples of the modules developed by NDTA:
Developed by training subject matter expertise from various forces on behalf of the NPCC, the basic syllabus builds on the General Visual Line of Sight certificate to ensure standardisation within police drone operations. This course includes theoretical and practical learning covering a multitude of topics designed to improve safety, operational efficiency and pilot integrity. The nationwide utility of the basic syllabus facilitates peer review into safety incidents, sharing of best practice and standardisation of common procedures allowing pilots to operate safely outside of force boundaries alongside other forces. This course can be completed by any police pilot, including but not limited to police officers, staff and members of the special constabulary.
Developed by training subject matter expertise from various forces on behalf of the NPCC, the standard syllabus builds on the basic syllabus to ensure safety and operational effectiveness within frontline police drone operations and investigations. Covering both theoretical and practical learning, this course covers tactical aspects designed to ensure operators utilise their drones to maximum operational efficiency. The national adoption of the Standard syllabus allows effective deployment of drones across NPCC forces and allows RP’s to operate safely and tactically outside of their force boundaries alongside other forces. This course can be completed by any police pilot, including but not limited to police officers, staff and members of the special constabulary.
