Roads policing officers came together this week (Tuesday 11 March) to reduce road casualties and disrupt criminality during a multi-agency action day in South Norfolk.
Officers from the Roads Casualty Reduction Team, alongside colleagues from the Commercial Vehicle Unit, were in attendance with partners from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), HMRC, local authority taxi licencing and Safety Camera Partnership.
The action day saw 62 vehicles, including light and heavy goods vehicles, being escorted to a designated check site in South Norfolk. 45 offences were identified with seven vehicles being seized immediately. Only 11 vehicles left the site having committed no offences.
The offences identified including using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, having illegal window tints and carrying insecure loads. 79 drivers were caught speeding in the area.
Numerous drivers were found to have issues with the condition of their tyres. Drivers should check the condition on a weekly basis. The legal tread limit on a car is 1.6mm tread for entire circumference of the tyre.
Three people were arrested for driving offences in the area. One male driver was arrested and charged with six offences including dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified as well as possession of a class B drug.
The local authority checked 5 taxis, with some minor infringements identified. HMRC dipped 19 fuel tanks. They identified 1 red diesel offence resulting in a fine of over £500.
