A tribute has been issued by the family of Kalan Barratt following the opening of his inquest today (Monday 24 February).
Kalan, aged 21, sadly died following a collision in Westwick on Sunday 26 May 2024.
His family said: “Kalan was a loved member of the local community. Growing up he joined local groups, including the Cromer Air Cadets. During his time as a cadet he sailed around the solent on the HMS Royalist and took part in many parades and air shows. At school Kalan completed his Bronze and Silver DofE.
“Kalan was a junior member at The Royal Cromer Golf Club, where he became the junior captain and represented the club at many competitions. After school, Kalan trained hard for 3 years to become an electrician and had an amazing ‘work family’ around him. However, at 21 he knew his future was in the forces and applied to join the army and this was to be his next journey that he was about to embark on.
“These experiences made Kalan a kind, fun loving, polite young man. His smile and laughter could light up a room and he could talk to anyone, of any age, or walk of life.
“Since Kalan's passing his friends have come together and are raising money for the Norfolk Air Ambulance, in remembrance of Kalan. Several of his friends took part in the 2024 Cromer Boxing Day dip and raised over £1,000. Two of his friends are running the Norfolk Marathon in April and so far between them have nearly reached £2,000 in his memory and with the donations from Kalan's funeral the total so far is nearly £5,200 for Norfolk Air Ambulance.
“Kalan is and will always be missed by so many. However, we all have such wonderful memories and stories to share of a truly special young man.”
