A man has been sentenced after kicking and punching another man repeatedly following an incident in Norwich.
Brian McCadie, aged 41 and of no fixed address, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Friday 8 November, after previously pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker at King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on 17 October 2024.
The sentence follows an incident which took place in the early hours of Thursday 5 September in which CCTV on London Street captured an assault.
The footage shows McCadie striking the victim with his backpack as the victim sits down. The victim looks to be in distress or injured and shows the victim’s head flop to his chest, which McCadie then lifts to address him.
The defendant then delivers kicks and punches to the victim's head. The victim covers his face and does not resist the blows and then falls to the floor.
McCadie can be seen on the CCTV to deliver "stomp" style kicks to the victims head on the ground.
The emergency services were called by a member of public nearby who saw the injured man and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
After officers arrived on scene they discovered a blood trail from the incident on London Street, and investigations showed that McCadie had already assaulted the victim just around the corner on St Andrew’s Hill.
McCadie was arrested shortly after the assault on Riverside Road. Upon his arrest McCadie spat on one of the arresting officers. He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned.
He was later charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and for the assault of an emergency worker.
He appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Friday 8 November where he was handed a seven-month prison sentence.
