A man has appeared in court after officers charged him in connection with 19 shop thefts in Norwich.
This follows a series of incidents that occurred between 19 November 2023 and 28 April 2024 where various items such as meat, cleaning and dairy products were reported stolen.
Officers arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of theft from shops and theft of motor vehicle at 11.43am on Philadelphia Lane on Tuesday 9 July, and he was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Aidan Hanley, aged 32, and of Dogwood Road, Norwich was charged with 19 counts of theft from shop and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 10 July where he pleaded guilty to the shop theft charges and not guilty to taking a motor vehicle without consent. He was found guilty of all offences and was released on bail with conditions not to enter any Co-op store and ordered to wear an electronic tag. He is next due in court on 26 September 2024.
