Police investigating a fatal collision in Swafield in August 2023 say they still need to trace key witnesses that could hold important information.
Emergency services were called to The Street, in Swafield, near North Walsham, at 6.24pm on Thursday 10 August 2023 following reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a white Ford Ranger truck and a pedal cycle.
Sadly, the cyclist, a teenage boy, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Ford Ranger failed to stop but was located a short while later.
A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. He was taken to custody for questioning and has since been released on bail until February 2024.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was driving along the B1145 that evening, who has not yet been spoken to.
Det insp Dave McCormack of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit who is leading the enquiry said: “Our investigation is progressing and officers working on the case have spoken to a number of witnesses and people that stopped at the scene.
“However, from the extensive enquiries we have undertaken we believe there are other people who stopped to help the victim and who left before emergency services arrived that have not been spoken to by police and who may hold important information.
“There will also be people who were travelling either on foot or in a vehicle that may have seen something relevant to the investigation and we strongly encourage them to come forward and speak to us if they have not done so already.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who was walking or driving along the B1145 from Knapton to Swafield between 6pm and 6.30pm that evening and saw either a cyclist on his pedal bike and/or the Ford Ranger truck or anyone who may have any footage from that time that could be helpful to our enquires, however insignificant it might seem.
“Every piece of information helps us to understand exactly what happened and it is not too late to get in touch.”
