A man has been issued with a driving ban after overtaking an unmarked police car at 140mph.
Ervis Xhaferi, aged 30 and of Spring Drive, Stevenage, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday 3 December and pleaded guilty to speeding. He was sentenced to a 56-day driving ban and ordered to pay £859 in costs and fines.
The sentences follows an incident on Saturday 26 August 2024 when a roads policing sergeant was travelling in an unmarked car on the A47 at Trowse. He was overtaken by Xhaferi at speeds of over 140mph. The officer caught up with Xhaferi as he was held up in traffic further down the road where he was reported for excessive speed.
Sgt James Shepherd said: “Xhaferi had been driving at an outrageous speed whilst also carrying a passenger. Had he lost control of the vehicle, he could have killed them both.
“His actions displayed a complete disregard for his own safety and that of other road users. We will continue to work to prosecute individuals who think driving in this manner is acceptable and keep this county’s roads safe.”
