A man who died after being stabbed in Norwich on Friday night (2 August) has been provisionally identified as Oliver Payne, 38.
Detectives from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team continue to investigate the incident which happened in Paragon Place at around 6.44pm.
Officers have spoken to witnesses, carried out house-to-house enquiries, gathered CCTV footage from the area and continue to review this. Detectives will be taking additional witness accounts as they piece together a timeline of events prior to the incident and in the hours that followed.
A post mortem examination was held on Sunday and while further tests are needed, preliminary findings show Mr Payne’s death was consistent with a single stab wound to the chest.
Formal identification is due to take place on Thursday 8 August 2024.
Local neighbourhood police officers will continue with increased patrols over the coming days.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Sam Pontin said: “I would like to thank the local community for their support with our investigation to date. Their contributions have been invaluable.
“I would like to reiterate our appeal for anyone with information who has not yet spoken to us, to please get in touch. Our enquiries are progressing well and we will keep the community updated on progress of this case.”
