Thursday 4 April saw officers from the Roads and Armed Policing team come together for an action day in Great Yarmouth to target drivers using counterfeit documents.
Alongside colleagues from Operation Moonshot (the ANPR team), officers escorted 50 vehicles to a designated check site.
Eight drivers were arrested throughout the day; three for cannabis production, three for immigration offences, one for drug driving and possession and one who was wanted for failing to appear at court.
Six vehicles were seized as a part of the operation; one for having no road tax and five under Section 165 which could include driving without insurance or otherwise in accordance with their driving license.
25 Traffic Offence Reports were issued for various road traffic offences. Two vehicles received prohibition notices with one van being overweight by 1.5 tonnes! You can find out more about roadside prohibitions here: Roadside vehicle checks for commercial drivers: Roadside prohibitions - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
One vehicle did fail to stop for police shortly before the driver fled the scene. The van was seized by officers and enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver.
PC Joshua Preston of the Roads and Armed Policing team said: “Action days such as these are incredibly important for maintaining the safety of Norfolk’s roads and the county as a whole.
“Drivers who hold false documents or have no insurance have been found to be linked to wider criminality. Officers are proactively preventing these individuals from going onto commit further crime.
