A man in his 40s has been charged with assaulting and intentionally strangling a police officer in Norwich.
Police were called to Starling Road shortly before 1pm on Tuesday 14 November following a report a man was shouting outside a property and attempting to break into the address.
Officers attended the property and a man aged in his 40s was arrested at the scene. A male police officer was assaulted in the incident and received medical care at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. He has since been discharged.
The man was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. John Charlton, age 43, of William Kett Close, Norwich, has subsequently been charged with assaulting an emergency worker, and intentionally strangling an emergency worker.
He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday 15 November) where he was bailed ahead of his next court appearance on 13 December 2023.
