“Neil was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend. He was a proud Scotsman and Celtic fan who played a hugely influential role in his son’s life; who shared his father’s love of football and golf.

He had an extraordinarily large circle of friends and family in England, Scotland and overseas, and was universally loved by all. Neil was a kind, happy, and selfless man, who always did everything he could to help others and lived his life to the fullest.

We are heartbroken by his loss and ask that his and his family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. Should anyone possess any information that may assist the police in their investigation, we urge them to come forward.”

Police launched an investigation after the victim named as Neil, pending formal inquest proceedings, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries following the incident which happened in Bridge Street near to the Kings Head pub on Friday night (10 November) at 9.30pm. Neil sadly died in hospital on Monday 13 November 2023.

• Five men, all aged in their 20s, were arrested on Friday night (10 November 2023) on suspicion of assault (GBH) and questioned at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre. They were released on bail to appear at Wymondham PIC on February 7, 2024.
• Officers arrested a sixth suspect, a man aged in his 50s, on suspicion of assault on Sunday (12 November 2023). He was also questioned at Wymondham and has since been released on bail to appear at Wymondham PIC on 5 February 2024.
