Norfolk Police are reminding all road users of measures they can take to remain safe and be seen on the roads as we enter the winter months.
As the nights begin rapidly drawing in, it is very important to make sure you are prepared for the cold, wet weather, and darker evenings.
Vulnerable road users including cyclists, pedestrians, and horse riders, tend to disproportionately account for those seriously injured or killed in collisions across the country. Motorists should be alert to vulnerable road users crossing and using roads, allowing time and space for them to do so.
As a vulnerable road user, it is also important that you take necessary measures in order to increase your visibility in dark wintry conditions:
The images below demonstrate how applying these steps can increase others' awareness of your presence on the road, and how dangerous it could be not to take these precautions.
Insp Graham Dalton of Community Safety said: "The roads are for everyone to use so it is important that both drivers and vulnerable road users are aware of each other and how best to protect themselves from being involved in a collision.
“It is vitally important to be vigilant in your steps toward road safety, especially when being out and about during this time of the year.
“By wearing high-vis clothing and making sure your lights are in working order, you can reduce the risk of collisions and ensure all drivers and other road users are aware of each other."
