Thetford officers have teamed up with local shops to help tackle shoplifting in the town. The local Beat Managers are working with representatives from independent and chain retailers to create a Shopwatch scheme. It will help support shops both in the town centre and in the retail parks on the edge of Thetford.
The scheme will involve regular meetings between shop representatives and local officers to share information and work together on preventing regular offenders from stealing from shops. When incidents do happen, officers will work hard to recover stolen goods and deal with offenders.
In recent months, shops around Thetford have seen a noticeable increase in shoplifting. This has led to the creation of the new scheme which started at the beginning of December.
Simon Jones, Breckland Neighbourhood Policing Inspector said: “Our dedicated local teams work closely with the communities across Breckland, and this scheme in Thetford is a great example of how working together can get some great results.
“It’s been brilliant to see the shops come forward and lead on this project and we are really pleased to support this. It may be starting during the countdown to Christmas but will continue well in to 2024 and hopefully beyond.”
If you’d like to speak to your local Thetford Beat Managers you can find them in Sainsbury’s this Saturday (9 December) between 11am-1pm.
