A 31-year-old man will appear in court this week charged in connection with a serious assault in Great Yarmouth on Friday (22 December 2023).
It comes after a man in his 50s was found with serious injuries in Regent Road on Friday lunchtime.
Emergency services were called at 12.07pm and following enquiries, officers believe the assault took place inside a communal area in a block of flats on Malakoff Close.
Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested on suspicion of GBH on Friday night (22 December) and were taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Officers were granted extra time to question both suspects after applying to magistrates for a warrant of further detention on Saturday night (23 December).
Martin Montgomery, of Russell Road, Yarmouth, is accused of GBH with intent. He has been remanded into custody to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court on Tuesday 26 December.
A man in his 20s arrested on suspicion of GBH has been released on bail, with conditions, until March 2024 while enquiries continue.
Police cordons in Malakoff Close, Ordnance Road and Russell Road, have all now been lifted.
The victim remains in a critical condition in Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
