New Specials for Norfolk
A mortgage adviser, a piano teacher and a medical researcher are three of the latest recruits set to don police uniforms after joining the ranks of Norfolk’s Special Constabulary.
Some seven new special constables will be patrolling the county following an official attestation ceremony at Norfolk Constabulary's Wymondham headquarters.
And before stepping out in their neighbourhoods the specials were all congratulated by
Deputy Chief Constable Charlie Hall who attended the event on Sunday 13 March 2016.
"Special officers play a very valuable role in supporting the work of Norfolk Constabulary and the service we provide to local people," he said.
"It was an honour to attend such an event and meet the new recruits who we are delighted to welcome on board. The commitment and energy shown by Norfolk's Specials is truly admirable and they make a significant contribution to the continuing safety of our communities."
During the ceremony the group all individually read the Oath Of Allegiance to local Magistrate Wendy Mantin.
Specials Manager, Sue Goode, said: "Being a Special is a very rewarding, fulfilling and interesting role where no two duties are the same.
"Norfolk is always on the look-out for committed individuals who are keen to experience the world of policing while supporting their local community."
Areas the new specials will be based in will include North Walsham, Sprowston, Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn and Norwich.
The Specials have all taken part in an intensive training course which saw them studying various aspects of policing including crime scene and road traffic management, statement taking and diversity and human rights issues.
The new recruits bring the total number of Specials in the county to 253.
Norfolk continues to be on the look-out for committed individuals who are keen to experience the world of policing while supporting their local community.
Norfolk’s Special Constabulary launched its own Twitter account - @NorfolkSpecials – in November 2015.
The Special Constabulary is a voluntary body to help the regular police force in meeting the policing needs of the community. Their roles include providing highly visibility patrols and helping police major incidents and events. Special Constables provide a vital link in the partnership between the police service and the public.
