Dealer jailed for five years

George Buckley

A drug deal thwarted by officers concluded this month with a Dereham man being sentenced to over 5 years behind bars.

George Buckley, aged 45, from Sandy Lane in Dereham was stopped by police in a parked vehicle at approximately 10am on Saturday 2 April 2016. A subsequent search resulted in the discovery of a bag of heroin with a street value of £400 and £1600 in cash. Buckley was arrested and later charged on Wednesday 4 May 2016.

Buckley pleaded guilty to possession of a class A drug with the intention to supply at Norwich Magistrates Court on Thursday 12 May 2016. He was sentenced to five years and six months imprisonment.

Inspector John Papworth from Breckland said: "This result sends a warning that we will not tolerate any kind of activity around the dealing of drugs in this county.

"I hope this result reassures our communities that we will act on intelligence and information provided to us and that we continue to investigate and seek prosecutions against those who break the law.”

A confiscation hearing under the proceeds of crime act will take place on Thursday 23 June 2016 at Norwich Crown Court.
