Tivetshall St Margaret incident - man detained

A man in his 30s has been arrested by police following an incident in School Road, Tivetshall St Margaret.

Police were called to the area last night at approximately 10pm following concerns for the safety of a man. The man, who was in a distressed state, locked himself in a property.

Following lengthy negotiations, officers entered the property and the man was detained and remains in police custody where further assessments will take place.

Leading on the incident, Chief Inspector Kris Barnard said: "The area around the property was cordoned off for the safety of all involved, including local residents.

"Specialist police resources worked throughout the day to bring this matter to a safe conclusion and I would like to thank people nearby for their patience and understanding.”

A number of police units including response, firearms officers and trained negotiators attended the scene.

Police remain at the scene of an on-going incident in School Road, in Tivetshall St Margaret.

Officers were called to the area last night at approximately 10pm following concerns for the safety of a man.

The man, who was in a distressed state, locked himself in a property where he remains.

A number of police resources, including trained negotiators and firearms officers, are on scene and it is not believed there is any wider threat to the public.

We would like to thank the public for their continued assistance and patience while we resolve the incident.

The property is near to Tivetshall St Margaret Primary School and we can confirm the incident has not involved the school.

The head teacher has been advised about the incident and that we believe there is no wider threat to the public.

The headteacher has taken the decision to close the school.
