Two people charged in connection with Great Yarmouth murder

Two people have been charged in connection with the murder of a woman in Great Yarmouth. 


The East of England Ambulance Service was called to an address in South Market Road at approximately 11.40pm on Monday 5 August 2019 following reports a woman had fallen down some stairs. 

The woman was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge with serious head injuries but sadly died in hospital on Wednesday 7 August. 

Pending formal Coroner’s inquest proceedings, police have provisionally identified the deceased as Linda Rainey, aged 60 and from Great Yarmouth. A Home Office post mortem examination which took place on Monday 12 August established Linda died from a serious head injury. 

Officers have now charged two people in connection with Linda’s death. 

Rosalind Gray, aged 55 and of Marlborough Square in Great Yarmouth, has been charged with murder and conspiring to pervert the course of justice. 

Adrian Lawrence, aged 53 and of South Market Road in Great Yarmouth, has been charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice. 

Gray and Lawrence are due to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court on Wednesday 14 August.

Murder investigation continues

Police are continuing to investigate the death of a woman in Great Yarmouth.

The East of England Ambulance Service was called to an address in South Market Road at approximately 11.40pm on Monday 5 August 2019 following reports a woman had fallen down some stairs.

The woman was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge with serious head injuries but sadly died in hospital on Wednesday 7 August.

On Saturday 10 August police received significant information from a member of the public and following further enquiries officers are now treating her death as suspicious.

Pending formal Coroner’s inquest proceedings, police have provisionally identified the deceased as Linda Rainey, aged 60 and from Great Yarmouth. A Home Office post mortem examination which took place on Monday 12 August established Linda died from a serious head injury.

Two people from the Great Yarmouth area, who were arrested in connection with the woman’s death on Sunday 11 August, remain in police custody. A woman, aged in her 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a man, aged in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Officers have been granted more time to question them both after successfully obtaining a warrant for further detention from Norwich Magistrates Court.   

Family tribute to Linda Rainey

The family of Linda Rainey, who died at Addenbrookes Hospital on Wednesday 7 August 2019 following a fall at an address in South Market Road in Great Yarmouth on Monday 5 August, have issued the following tribute:

"Linda (Lin) was the much loved mother of five children and grandmother to four grandchildren whom she adored. She was also a popular member of the community. Her death has come as a huge shock for us. As we struggle to come to terms with our loss we would request privacy at this difficult time."

A Home Office post mortem examination is due to take place today (Monday 12 August) to establish the exact cause of death; however, pending formal Coroner’s inquest proceedings, police have provisionally identified the deceased as Linda Rainey, aged 60 of Harley Road in Great Yarmouth.

Two people from the Great Yarmouth area were arrested in connection with the woman’s death yesterday (Sunday 11 August). A woman, aged in her 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a man, aged in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They both remain in police custody at this time.

The victim and the two people in custody are known to each other.
