Officers from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team are carrying out additional searches in the area of Brandon Road, Thetford, today (Wednesday 20 November) and tomorrow (Thursday 21 November). This includes a search of the river by a police diving team.

This afternoon (Wednesday 20 November 2019) officers also arrested a 21 year old woman in connection with the murder investigation. She was arrested at a London address on suspicion of assisting an offender and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and is being brought to Norfolk for questioning.

This is the 16th arrest in connection with the murder of 25 year old David Lawal who died in Brandon Road, Thetford, on Thursday 3 October 2019 after suffering stab wounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Phillip Gray, who is leading the murder investigation, said: "Our investigation involves County Lines activity and as such there are many lines of enquiry involving a number of individuals.

"A young man lost his life by the side of a road in Thetford little more than a month ago and while our priority is to catch those responsible for David's murder, we need to investigate the wider drug dealing network so we can be absolutely certain who was involved, what their involvement was and ensure we do our very best to bring them to justice.

"I can't stress enough how invaluable the public are in helping us piece together what happened, and I'd appeal to anybody who thinks they may have seen something or have any information, however insignificant they may feel it is, to come forward and speak to us."

Detective Chief Inspector Phillip Gray, who is leading the investigation, said: "We have now made several arrests and I want to reassure people that we have a dedicated team working hard behind the scenes. This is a complex investigation and we're building a comprehensive picture of exactly what happened in the hours leading up to the murder and immediately afterwards.

"We said at the outset that we believed this had all the hallmarks of being connected to County Lines and that those involved were all known to each other. This very much remains our view. This in turn brings its own challenges, not least logistically in dealing with people living outside of Norfolk.

"A man has lost his life and it's right that we focus on building a full and thorough investigation to try our very best to bring those responsible to justice."

I want to appeal again to anybody who may have been in the area at the time – Brandon Road, Canon’s Close, Canterbury Way and Durham Way - particularly motorists with dash cam footage to come forward and share that with us. We also want to hear from you if you know someone who has information but who is, for whatever reason, reluctant to come forward themselves.
