Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies’ Forensic Services Department provide a vital policing role that directly impacts on crime detection and reduction and this is a rare opportunity to join the team as a Trainee Crime Scene Investigator.

As a Trainee Crime Scene Investigator, you will attend crime scenes and conduct examinations to recover physical evidence, initially from less serious offences. You will write reports and statements and give evidence in Court. This important position requires the successful applicant to have a flexible approach: work weekends, cover shifts between 0800 and 2200 and be available out of hours on a standby rota.

Subject to satisfactory evidence of competency, all successful applicants are expected to progress to become Crime Scene Investigators (Band E) examining all crime types.

At all stages it is likely that you will be exposed to scenes that will be unpleasant in nature.

We are looking for applicants who can offer the following attributes:

 

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills with GCSE, or an equivalent level of qualification, in a science discipline
  • Experience of undertaking analytical work with the ability to create accurate reports
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise to meet deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with people at all levels and under difficult circumstances and in operating as an effective team member
  • Able to solve problems and effectively evaluate options
  • Flexible approach; able to work across Norfolk and Suffolk (and in other forces where required) and to work unsocial hours
  • Basic keyboard skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Full driving licence in order to drive police vehicles and transport equipment
  • Possess physical fitness necessary to carry out the duties of the post

 

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of ISO Quality Management
  • Photographic Experience

 

Hours of work are 37 per week. This post is offered on a permanent basis.

Consideration will be given to whether the post can be delivered on either a part time or job share basis, in line with the organisational requirements of this role.
