Title

Adult Abuse

Norfolk Constabulary’s Adult Abuse Investigation Unit works with partners to stop the physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and financial abuse of adults at risk, acting quickly to protect them from harm.

Adults at risk are people who need more help than others to stay safe. They are people who may need help to live their lives. This includes:

  • people with disabilities

  • older people

  • people with mental health problems

  • people who are ill for a long time

  • people who are misusing drugs or alcohol.

The Unit investigates criminal allegations of abuse or neglect against adults where:

  • the adult is in need of care and support

  • the adult is unable to protect themselves from harm or abuse

  • the offender is in a position of trust over the victim (i.e. carer, close relative)

  • the allegation is of a serious offence between residents in a residential / nursing care home or secure hospital facility.

If you are concerned someone you know is being abused or may be at risk of any form of mistreatment or neglect, you can:

  • call the police on 101

  • speak to Adult Social Services on 0344 800 8020 (available 24 hours a day).

In an emergency call the police on 999
