The Red Wheelies
Mobility scooter formation display team The Red Wheelies are the
latest recruits to the Norfolk Constabulary’s Safe Scoot
campaign.
The inspirational ladies in red are showing their support of the
mobility scooter safety awareness initiative with a synchronised
scooter display to catch the nation’s attention on The Michael Ball
Show.
Norfolk Constabulary Superintendent Jim
Smerdon appeared on the show with The Red
Wheelies, broadcast on 2 September 2010 to help promote
safe scooting, the mobility courses and discuss new legislation for
scooter users.
There will then be a challenge by Michael Ball and his guest
Brian Conley to complete the scooter course. This will be done on
two scooters provided by Safe Scoot partner Halfords.
Jackie Weeden of The Red Wheelies told Norfolk Constabulary
that like all good things the idea of setting up a formation dance
group came about by accident.
She said, “The idea for The Red Wheelies came after a group of
us were playing around on our scooters and realised we could dance
using them!
“We were racing our scooters at a local running track one cold
night November night a few years ago as part of our fundraising
activities for Children in Need. During the night we began messing
around as a group, weaving in and out of each other and realised we
could do a formation dance."
