Working to serve and protect the people of Norfolk

Preserving frontline services and protecting Norfolk’s communities remain priorities for the county’s police chiefs despite the financial challenge.

As money available to fund Norfolk's policing service continues to reduce, Constabulary and Police Authority leaders have pledged to work hard to minimise the impact.

In 2010, the Home Office announced that Norfolk Police Authority’s (NPA) central funding allocation would be reduced by 16% over the next four years - requiring savings of £25 million to be made.

It came despite Norfolk reducing costs by £19 million in the previous four years through a programme of streamlining and modernisation.

The Authority awaits news of the government's budget settlement for 2012/13.

Norfolk Chief Constable Phil Gormley said: “I am determined that whilst we will have to make some difficult decisions about resources, the Constabulary will continue to serve and protect Norfolk to the best of its ability.”
