Prince Charles presents Norfolk awards
1 December 2011
HRH The Prince of Wales presented Long Service and Good Conduct
medals to members of Norfolk Constabulary on Thursday 1
December.
46 recipients were honoured for their contribution to the police
service.
Accompanying His Royal Highness was Chief Constable Phil
Gormley. The event took place in the Ballroom of Sandringham House
where police officers, members of the Special Constabulary and
staff were present, along with their family and friends with a
reception held after the ceremony.
To qualify for the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, police
officers must have served 20 years, while Special Constabulary
officers are honoured for 9 years ‘willing and competent’ voluntary
service.
For each additional 10 years’ service, Specials receive a bar
which is added to their medal. For Police Staff, the Constabulary
has initiated its own award of a certificate for 20 years loyal
service and cut glass for 45 years exceptional long service.
Chief Constable Phil Gormley said: “To be able to hold such an
important Constabulary event at Sandringham House with the Prince
presenting the medals is a privilege and honour. We hope that His
Royal Highness enjoyed the event and the chance to meet officers
and staff from the Constabulary.
“These events are always a great pleasure to be part of and not
only provide an opportunity to show appreciation to the individuals
receiving them, but also to the families and friends who have
supported them in their work over many years.”
