With only a day to go before the New Year celebrations begin police are reminding drivers to think twice before getting behind the wheel the morning after.

The warning comes just hours after a driver stopped on the A11 at Besthorpe was found to be close to the legal drink drive limit. The man was stopped at about midday today and admitted to drinking the night before.

Yesterday police stopped a woman in Hingham who also provided a reading close to the limit and admitted being drinking the previous evening.

Roads Policing Inspector David Ball said: “In both of these cases the drivers were very close to the drink drive limit and had they been stopped earlier the reading would have almost certainly been positive.

“I can’t emphasise enough the importance of planning your journey and also making sure you plans in place to for the morning after.”

Both drivers were given words of advice.

This year’s Think! Norfolk Christmas Drink Drive campaign launched earlier this month runs until January 1 and encourages party goers to think twice before drink driving on the night of their party and gives them ideas for alternative transport for the morning after.

Research has shown that drivers could still be over the legal limit the following day and using the bus, train, taxi or walking to work will help drivers avoid a great night out turning into the worst morning of their lives.

A novel website www.askgus.mobi which can be accessed through mobile phones allows revellers to find the nearest transports options in that areas and also displays a map with the nearest bus stops, train and taxi options.

The new mobile website was designed by local Norwich agency, oneagency.co
