Police have shut down an illegal rave in an area of woodland in west Norfolk.

Two people were arrested and sound equipment, vinyl records and a van used for the unlicensed event near Grimston were seized.

Officers attended the scene, off Massingham Road between Grimston and Great Massingham, in the early hours this morning (Sunday 28 August) following a call from a concerned member of the public shortly before 1am.

Up to 100 people were in attendance with around 20 vehicles parked nearby in an area of woodland known locally as Old Belt.

Officers were dispatched to the scene and blocked possibly entrance/exits and the event was safely closed down by about 6am.

Superintendent Nick Davison, who led the operation, said: “The action taken to disrupt this event falls in line with our zero-tolerance approach to illegal raves, which are potentially dangerous and cause unnecessary damage and disruption.

“We received three separate calls from members of the public regarding this event and I would like to thank those members of the local community for taking prompt action.”

Today’s operation reaffirms the Constabulary’s strategy on these illegal events. All available means and legislation will be applied to prevent, disrupt and close raves with equipment being seized wherever possible.

A 27-year-old man and 24-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident under licensing legislation and remain in custody at King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre.
