Police in Norwich are helping to celebrate Refugee Week 2010.

A Family Fun Day is being held at Eaton Park on Sunday 20 June as part of the city’s support of the annual event.

Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.

Officers from Earlham, Larkman and Marlpit and University and Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Teams as well as members of the Constabulary’s Diversity Team will have a stand at Eaton Park and available for local residents to raise any concerns they may have and will also be offering crime prevention advice.

Every year during the week hundreds of events are organised across the UK including in Norwich to celebrate it as a multi cultural city.

Hau Yee Lam who is a Diversity Liaison Officer from the Protective Service Department at Norfolk Constabulary said “The event should be a great day and will be a really good way to end the week which aims to improve the understanding and integration of refugees here.

“Everyone is welcome to the Fun Day where there will be things like face painting, food tasting and musical performances by local children.  We hope by having a visible presence at the Fun Day that people will feel able to come and speak to us.”

Refugee Week 2010 takes place between 14-20 June.

Officers will be at Eaton Park between 11am and 6pm on Sunday 20 June.
