Secure your garden items
Police are reminding homeowners to take extra security
precautions following an increase in thefts from residential
gardens.
Over the past few days, Friday 16 to Sunday 18 July,
ornaments and hanging baskets have been reported stolen from
properties in Horsford and Horsham St Faith.
Police are asking members of the public to be vigilant and
report any suspicious activity near to their home.
Inspector Brian Pincher said: “Some people take a lot of effort
to make their gardens look nice but unfortunately there are a few
who want to spoil it.
“If you do see anyone acting suspicious and removing items from
gardens please report it to police immediately”.
If someone can get into your garden easily without attracting
suspicion, it gives them more time to steal from you. Norfolk
Constabulary offers the following advice for garden and shed
security:
- Ensure your fences and gates are in good repair.
- Where possible, install security lighting.
- If you leave things outside all year (ornaments, furniture,
tools) which could be removed easily secure them in position
or fill with heavy gravel to prevent easy carrying.
- Keep your garden cut back so you can see what's going on.
Gravel on paths and driveways can alert you to someone
approaching.
- Attention should be paid to the security of sheds and garages
and to the property stored within.
- Mark your belongings – this will make them less attractive to
steal and make it more difficult for them to be sold on.
- Be a good neighbour – If anyone is spotted acting suspiciously
in your neighbourhood, call the police.
