Dog fouling and litter problems dealt with
Police in one area of Norwich have
successfully clamped down on dog fouling and litter problems thanks
to the help of the community and partner agencies.
The issues are no longer neighbourhood
priorities for Earlham, Larkman and Marlpit Safer Neighbouthood
Team (SNT).
At last night’s
(Wednesday 14 July) Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel (SNAP) meeting
it was agreed that dog fouling in Bowthorpe Community Park and
anti-social behavior where members of the community are constantly
littering in the SNT area had been appropriately dealt with.
Regarding dog fouling, members of the team
have conducted cycle and foot patrols in the area to gain more of
an insight into the problem. Keep Britain Tidy had been
approached by Earlham, Larkman and Marlpit SNT who supplied
relevant posters which have been distributed to nearby schools and
community facilities. A clear-up was conducted by the local
community including the West Norwich Junior Rangers. Dog
fouling bins have also been provided for dog owners.
The issue of littering has been dealt with by
a street briefing being held by officers where a number of
offenders were identified by members of the public. A
clean-up of the worst affected areas was carried out and the topic
was discussed at school assemblies. The Earlham, Larkman and
Marlpit Big Tidy-up community group helped distribute relevant
posters and leaflets about the issue.
It was agreed that anti-social behavior along
the Cadge Road corridor would continue to be a neighbourhood
priority for the next few months. High visibility patrols
have constantly been conducted in the area by officers from the
team. Those responsible for causing anti-social behavior have
been banned from the area. However problems continue to occur
therefore members of the team will proactively target the known
problem area. The SNT will conduct high visibility patrols to
reassure local people and dissuade those responsible for criminal
damage and other acts of anti-social behavior.
Following discussions at the SNAP meeting the following two new
priorities were agreed by officers, partner agencies and members of
the public:
1. Anti-social
behavior and crime committed on Roe Drive including ‘street
drinkers’ on the adjoining community park.
2. Anti-social
behavior and crime on the West Earlham estate particularly Rydal
Close and the church at the corner of 10 acre wood.
The date of the next SNAP meeting will be on
Wednesday 20 October at 7pm. A venue for the meeting will be
announced in due course.
