Taxi marshalling is a success
As I mentioned in
my last blog entry, we have embarked into the Summer Holiday period
and are seeing more and more people coming into Norwich city centre
on a daily basis and indeed, into the evenings.
This time of year also brings various
celebrations to the city, like the Pride March that I mentioned in
my last entry. This took place on Saturday 31 July and was enjoyed
thoroughly by all who attended. My thanks go to everyone who came
along on the day, in whatever capacity, for making it a peaceful
and enjoyable celebration to remember.
The night time economy
The increased volume of people attending both
day and night time activities in Norwich demands enhanced provision
of services. Recently I met with various parties involved in a Taxi
Marshalling scheme which we are currently operating as a group of
partners (Police, Council, Citizens Forum, Licensing Forum and
Event Guard). We are now looking to make it ‘self-funding’
with the support of the council and Taxi Drivers
Associations.
This service currently operates in the evening
and at weekends from Tombland and we hope to expand the capability
of this both in terms of operating times and location availability
in the city. We are currently awaiting news on planning issues and
logistical matters but I hope to be in a position to update you
soon.
My planning ahead continues to focus on
anti-social behaviour and crime which directly relates to the
holiday period and I look forward to updating you again in a couple
of weeks on more progress.
