Second person dies in fatal collision

Officers from Swaffham Road Policing can confirm that a second
person has died in the fatal road traffic collision at Wendling,
near Dereham, early yesterday afternoon.
The incident took place on the A47 at around 2:35pm
between Little Fransham and Dereham, close to the Wendling turn
off, when a grey Vauxhall Astra heading towards Norwich was in
collision with a silver VW Polo travelling in the opposite
direction.
The road remained closed, with diversions in place, for several
hours whilst police, fire and ambulance crews assisted
the victims. Air ambulance were also at the incident.
Sadly the female passenger of the Astra, a woman aged 76, died
at the scene, whilst the driver, a 77 year old man died later in
hospital. Both these occupants are believed to be from
the Leicester area. The 69 year old woman driver of the Polo,
believed to be from the Norwich area, remains seriously
ill in hospital with injuries including two broken legs, a broken
right arm, broken pelvis and internal bleeding.
