PCSO - What type of person is a PCSO?
Overall, we look for people who can engage with all types of
people out in the community from different walks of life, deal
with their enquiries and help us to deliver a police service that
makes everyone feel safer.
You should:
- have a strong sense of community and good local knowledge.
Both will be valuable to police officers and help them to operate
even more effectively
- have excellent communication skills so that you
can communicate with and respond to the concerns of people
from a diverse range of backgrounds with different racial, cultural
and religious beliefs
- be confident in making difficult decisions and taking
responsibility where necessary
- work well as part of a team and in a disciplined
environment within set rules and regulations
- meet our medical and fitness standards and be capable of
performing patrol work in all weathers.
If you are thinking of applying, you must be at least 18 years
old on appointment and have:
- experience of communicating with a wide variety of people
- the ability to coach and mentor staff
- experience of working on your own initiative with minimum
supervision
- basic IT skills.
We would also prefer you to have:
- a full and current driving licence
- a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
You need to be fit and healthy as your duties as a PCSO will
involve extensive foot patrols in all sorts of weather conditions.
You must therefore meet fitness, eyesight and medical standards and
you will have a full medical.

You must be able to work shifts on a rostered pattern. The shift
pattern will depend on the location you work at. You must also
be flexible as occasionally your planned duties will be
disrupted due to the Operational needs of the Constabulary.
