What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) news feeds allow you to see when
websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines
and video in one place, as soon as it’s published, without having
to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.
RSS feeds
are read using news reader software. There are different versions
about, and you will need to choose one that works for your
computer.
Some are accessed using a browser (Mozilla Firefox, Opera,
Safari, Google, My Yahoo!, Microsoft Live), and some of which are
downloadable applications (Newz Crawler, FeedDemon,
Awasu).
Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed
subscriptions from any computer (you can log in to the service just
like logging into a Hotmail or Yahoo email account), whereas
downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer,
in the same way that you download your e-mail using
Outlook.
When you have chosen your news reader, you can then
subscribe to any RSS feed to any website by clicking on the orange
button and copying and pasting the URL of that feed into your news
reader.
