NB. It is recommended that you check the Guide before submitting your request in case the information you required is already published.

Your own personal information, such as your criminal convictions record (or confirmation you do not have any convictions); reports you have made of crime or incidents; witness statements you have made.

Your right of access to your own personal information is via the subject access provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

If you are another public authority and require information, particularly personal information, in order to carry out your statutory functions.

In the first instance please direct any such requests to the Data Protection Officer on 0845 456 4567 where you will receive further guidance.

Submitting your request for information
All requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act MUST be made in writing and MUST include the following:
Your name
An address; email or postal address
A description of the information you require

Visit a Norfolk Constabulary police station and ask for a Freedom of Information Request Form.

What happens next
You will receive written confirmation of your request and a latest date by which you should receive a reply.
 
The Act requires that requests for information are responded to within 20 working days, starting from the working day after your request is received.
 
If it is necessary to clarify any aspect of your request we will contact you. A telephone number would be helpful for this purpose.

If it is apparent that the information you have requested is held by another public authority we will contact you and inform you of our intention to transfer the request and the details of the relevant public authority. If you do not wish us to transfer the request we will provide a full response based only on the information relevant to your request held by Norfolk Constabulary.

The response to your request will be provided via email or post. If it has been necessary to refuse your request or any part of it, this will be fully explained including what exemptions have been applied and why.

What to do if you are not satisfied with the response or the way in which your request has been handled.
Our response will include details of our internal complaints procedures, known as Internal Review.  An Internal Review is conducted by a senior manager independent of the original decision making process. You will receive the outcome of an internal review as early as possible. The Information Commissioner’s Officer and the Association of Chief Police Officers recommend that a response should be made in 20 working days. If we are unable to respond in this timeframe we will inform you and provide a date by which you should expect to receive our response. 
 
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the internal review you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the government regulator for the Freedom of Information Act. Details of how to contact the Information Commissioner's Office is included in our correspondence.
