I am immigrating to another country and require a Subject Access Report; do I contact the foreign Nationals Registration Office?
No, if you are immigrating or require this type of clearance you must contact the ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO)
The Data Protection Form ACRO SA1 is the method for members of the public to request information about their criminal convictions history i.e. information on the Police National Computer. The process is formally known as subject access. People request this information for many reasons; often their request is for the purpose of receiving formal confirmation that they have no criminal convictions.

1. For people requiring visas to travelling to the USA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH AFRICA & NEW ZEALAND, the procedure has changed with immediate effect. The ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO) has agreed a service with these embassies called the Police Certificate. Applications should be made to ACRO as follows:

Visit www. Acpo.police.uk and click on the button on the front page ‘Police   Certificates’
Telephone ACRO on 0845 60 13 999 (Mon to Fri 08.30 to 16.30)
Email acro.policecertificates@acro.pnn.police.uk

The service is faster than the subject access process and costs more:
Standard service = 10 working days @ £35
Premium Service = 2 working days @ £70

The certificate is produced in a format agreed with the embassies. Members of the public should be aware that the embassies, in particular the USA, will stop accepting the old style subject access format responses.

2. For people travelling to ALL OTHER COUNTRIES, the subject access ACRO SA1 process will apply.
