Jo Shiner
Chief Superintendent Jo Shiner
Chief Superintendent Jo Shiner joined Norfolk Constabulary
in 1993. She served in various operational roles in the west of the
county during her early service and then joined the Child
Protection Unit as a Detective Sergeant, based at Swaffham.
She later became a Detective Inspector leading a number of
sensitive investigations. A notable achievement during her tenure
in this role was a significant fall in the rate of house burglaries
in the geographical area for which she was responsible.
In April 2003 she was promoted to the rank of Superintendent,
becoming one of only three female officers in the post in the
county. She initially headed up the Force’s Inspection and Review
Unit. Since then she has held several senior operational positions
including Operations Superintendent for both the eastern and
western policing divisions.
Jo Shiner has also served as Superintendent of Specialist
Operations which included responsibility for Firearms, dogs,
helicopter, contingency planning and other frontline specialist
services. She is a silver and gold firearms commander and a
critical incident commander.
In December 2004 she was promoted to Temporary Chief
Superintendent as Commander of the Police Public Interface.
Her current role as Director of Human Resources ensures that our
workforce is constantly reviewed and modernised in line with
challenging operational requirements.
Jo Shiner lives in Fakenham with her horses and dogs. She is a
keen runner and sportsperson, participating in a number of local
events, including the Norwich half marathon.
