Home Watch

The crime rate in Norfolk is one of the lowest in the
country. Norfolk Constabulary is committed to continuing to
reduce crime throughout the county. However, the Police cannot
fight crime on their own; they need the help of the whole
community. Home Watch provides a way for local people to play
an important part in making their communities safer and reducing
crime.
What is Home Watch?
Home Watch (also known as Neighbourhood
Watch) involves residents coming together to create a safer and
more caring community. It operates through a network of
schemes which:
- are set up along guidelines that are
approved by the Norfolk Constabulary
- are run by the members and supported by
the police
- vary in size
- choose a Head co-ordinator and sometimes
a small committee to manage the scheme, liaise with the police,
local organisations and other Watch groups
- take steps to prevent crime, improve
safety and reduce the fear of crime in their area.
How are schemes set
up?
Home Watch is currently
undergoing a review with new scheme details, materials and
information packs being available from 1 April 2010.
If you would like to set up a scheme in
your area before 1 April 2010 or would like more information on the
role of Home Watch co-ordinator, please contact the Communications
& Public Affairs department at Norfolk Constabulary on
