Public confidence in the police depends upon police officers and
police staff demonstrating the highest level of personal and
professional standards of behaviour and our Professional Standards
Department works in a variety of ways to make sure the public can
have faith in us.
The department’s work encompasses a very broad range of issues
and is divided into seven units:
Serious Cases Unit
The aim of the Serious Cases Unit is to investigate public
complaints against police and internal misconduct matters of a more
serious nature in a proportionate, fair and impartial manner.
Quality of Service Unit
This Quality of Service Unit is responsible for: making the
complaints system more accessible to the public; developing and
maintaining community contacts; quality assuring the complaints
process; and contributing to the development of Norfolk
Constabulary as a learning organisation by disseminating lessons
learned and training officers and staff to deliver a quality
service to the public.
Anti-Corruption and Intelligence Unit
(ACIU)
The Anti-Corruption and Intelligence unit is responsible for
investigating suspected corrupt, dishonest and unethical behaviour
involving police officers and police staff within Norfolk
Constabulary.
Performance Improvement Unit (PIU)
The Performance Improvement Unit (PIU) assists our managers to
increase performance and attendance for police officers and police
staff. Specifically, it: raises awareness of the Police
(Performance) Regulations 2008 and Force Policy across the
Constabulary; researches the performance of individual officers and
police staff referred to the unit; and provides advice and support
to line managers. It works closely with Human Resources.
Data Protection (DP) and Freedom of Information Unit
(FOI)
The Data Protection and Freedom of Information Unit supports the
Norfolk Constabulary in achieving compliance with the Data
Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act through the provision
of policy, processes, advice and training, and by responding to
requests for information in accordance with the appropriate
legislation.
Information Security (IS) and Vetting Unit
The Information Security and Vetting Unit ensures compliance
with the ACPO National Vetting Policy and also to provide a
consistent approach to all vetting decisions and develop
communication links both locally and nationally.
Case Management Unit
The Case Management Unit supports the overall management and
administration of the complaints process. In addition it quality
assures all investigations and is the liaison point for the
Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Analytical and Statistical Unit
The role of the Analytical and Statistical Unit is to provide
analytical and statistical support which aids continuous
improvement in the quality of service that Norfolk Constabulary
provides.
