Community Safety

The Community Safety department works to put the needs of individual people first in our decision-making processes, in the services we offer and delivering what they expect of us in a timeframe that is acceptable.

It is also about ensuring that communities and the police work together to solve the issues that matter most to them to create a safe living and working environment. This way of thinking is embedded throughout our organisation and is not just about a single department but about all of the people who work for us.

Our aims are to assist senior management by providing information and advice to them about the many different areas that impact upon the lives of the people within our communities.

This will help to ensure that the Constabulary’s Vision and Mission is realised and that people are our priority.

Our core objectives are:

  • Promoting excellent customer service with the different departments and teams within the Constabulary
  • To improve the Constabulary’s performance by designing a programme of activity to work with, and for, vulnerable minority communities
  • To support the Constabulary in its responsibility to promote community cohesion
  • To support the Constabulary in demonstrating that it is an organisation committed to fairness and equality
  • To develop a programme of activity designed to deliver continuous improvement in Safer Neighbourhood working
  • To provide information and assistance to the Police working with you through your Safer Neighbourhood Teams to tackle problems at a very localised and personal level.

We have commissioned Swift Research, a market research company, to conduct User Satisfaction and Confidence surveys on our behalf. These will measure both satisfaction of the users of our service and perceptions of, and confidence in, Norfolk Constabulary and the way we police. These surveys are optional and should you wish to discuss any aspect of the survey or have any questions regarding the information being requested please do not hesitate to contact Gill Wheatley on 0845 456 4567 extension 4105, or e-mail Gill on wheatleyg@norfolk.pnn.police.uk.

Diversity

Diversity is the term used to describe the wide variety of people who make up our communities across the county. Diversity refers to the varying: race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and physical and learning ability of the individuals we interact with.

Diversity considerations apply to us all, not just those from minority groups. Diversity is not just about responding to legislation, as the overriding consideration is to recognise, understand and value the uniqueness of an individual for who they are and who they choose to be. It is about moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual person.

Our Diversity Team is committed to helping create a better organisation in which everyone feels valued and our aim is to ensure that it can achieve its vision of transforming Norfolk Constabulary into a citizen-focused service by:

  • Responding to the diverse needs of individuals and communities
  • Promoting diversity to change culture and drive performance
  • Building the trust, confidence and satisfaction of those we serve and those with whom we work.
