The force has now formally launched its Children and Young People strategy which aims to address the needs of young people in Norfolk by keeping them safe, reducing crime and helping them to develop and achieve their full potential.

The ethos and policies of young people are embedded into the force’s long term plans and in its day to day activities. The strategy is backed up by a delivery framework which will ensure objectives are met and activity maintained.

The strategy applies to all young people under 18 years of age irrespective of disability, gender, religion or belief, race or sexual orientation.

In summary, the strategy aims to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour involving young people through intelligence-led and problem-solving approaches, improve the satisfaction and confidence of children and young people with the police service, improve the safety of children and young people through early interaction and intervention and, finally, work with other agencies to improve the effectiveness of the response to children and young people.

Assistant Chief Constable Kevin Wilkins said: “Achieving the aims and objectives contained in the strategy will help provide a safer society, more opportunities for young people and a police service that is respected by children and young people.”
